OverviewThe neurology service, at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, utilizes state-of-the art diagnostic tests and cutting-edge surgical procedures to provide high quality patient care and customer service.
This service provides teaching to veterinary students, interns, and residents, as well as continuing education for veterinary practitioners, veterinary technicians, and the public.
As a Vet Tech in Neurology you will work in a facility and environment conducive to the study of neurologic disease, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatments in companion animals, and works to promote general awareness about neurologic disease in companion animals in the scientific community and in the general public.
What You'll DoThis position qualifies for a $2,000 sign on bonus following successful completion of 6 months of employment for newly hired employees.
As a Veterinary Technician III in Neurology, you will assist the neurologists, residents, interns, staff, and students in carrying out the treatment of clinical (inpatient and outpatient) and surgical cases.
Candidates for this position will be trained to:
Perform electrodiagnostics tests (brain auditory evoked response tests (BAER) and EEGs)Conduct primary technician appointmentsAssist with the physical examination processRecord a complete and accurate patient history in the electronic medical recordInstruct veterinary students on neurology topics.
This position is also responsible for anesthesia on neurology patients, which may include MRI, surgery, CSF taps, muscle/nerve biopsies, electrodiagnostics, and more.
What We're Looking ForBasic Requirements:
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or other animal biology related field with 3 years of experience in a fast-paced veterinary hospital or clinicCVT in good standingTechnical abilities should include:
patient restraint, good venipuncture skills, IV catheter placement, knowledge of medicating, monitoring and treating a variety of patients.
Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, clinicians, students, staff and pet owners.
Must be able to work well independently as well as part of a team.
Computer skills including the ability to learn the electronic medical record systemAbility to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation Preferred
Qualifications:
Ability to handle a high caseload and stressful situations in a professional mannerExcellent understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with veterinary pharmacologyPrior experience with small animal anesthesia Excellent interpersonal skills in relating to co-workers, clinicians, students, staff and clients.

Flexibility with work schedule is a must.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
The schedule for this position may include providing University and calendar holiday coverage on a rotating basis.
Schedule may include evenings and weekends.
The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care is provided without interruption or exception.
This position is considered essential and is therefore required to report to work as scheduled during emergency closings.
Pay RangeMinimum $26.
40, Midpoint $31.
40, Maximum $36.
40 Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
